Consecutive interpreting

Consecutive interpreting requires the translation of relatively large passages after the speaker has finished. For this purpose the interpreter uses a special note-taking technique for consecutive interpreting.
Liaison interpreting is a special form of consecutive interpreting: The speaker pauses after a couple of sentences whilst the interpreter translates what has just been said. Liaison interpreting normally doesn’t require note-taking.

Simultaneous interpreting

Simultaneous interpreting means real-time translation from the source language to the target language using simultaneous interpreting equipment. Since this requires utmost concentration, the simultaneous interpreters use to work in teams of two persons in a soundproof booth and alternate about every 30 minutes.

Chuchotage

The chuchotage (from French “chuchoter” = to whisper) is a special form of simultaneous interpreting. The interpreter sits near the persons for whom he translates, whispering the translation to the listeners. To avoid disturbing the other participants of the event, each interpreter can work for a maximum of two persons.
